X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out a major update to simplify its Direct Messages (DMs). Soon, all your private chats and group conversations will be combined into a single, unified inbox, making it much easier to manage your conversations.
The new design features three simple tabs to help you organize your messages instantly.
What the New Tabs Mean:
- All: This is your new main inbox. It contains every single conversation both individual and group chats in one chronological list.
- Groups: Tapping this tab instantly filters your view to show only your group conversations. No more endless scrolling to find a specific group chat.
- Unencrypted: This tab helps you quickly identify your standard, regular DMs. It separates them from the newer, ultra-secure end-to-end encrypted messages that X is also offering. This gives you a clear and immediate way to see the privacy level of your conversations.
Why is X Doing This?
The goal is to make the messaging experience on X cleaner, faster, and more organized. By decluttering the inbox, X aims to compete with popular chat apps like WhatsApp and Messenger. This update is a key step in its broader ambition to become an “everything app” where messaging is a core, seamless feature.
