Perplexity AI Just Got Smarter: Introducing “Memory” and a Virtual Fitting Room

Posted on November 27, 2025

If you use AI tools to search the web, you know the frustration: every time you start a new conversation, it feels like the AI has “amnesia.” You have to re-explain who you are, what you like, and what you were working on yesterday.

Perplexity AI, a popular “answer engine” that searches the web for you, just released two massive updates to fix this. They have given the AI a Memory, and for the shoppers out there, they’ve added a Virtual Try-On feature.

Here is a simple breakdown of what these changes mean for you.

1. Perplexity Now Has a “Memory”

Imagine if your personal assistant forgot your name or your favorite coffee order every single morning. That is how most AI works today. Perplexity is changing that.

With this new update, Perplexity can remember details about you across different conversations. It doesn’t just look at what you are typing right now; it remembers what you typed last week.

How it works:

  • It learns your preferences: If you tell Perplexity, “I only like reading sci-fi books,” or “I prefer buying clothes from sustainable brands,” it stores that information.
  • It applies context automatically: The next time you ask for a book recommendation, you don’t need to say “sci-fi” again. Perplexity already knows. It will say, “Since you liked Project Hail Mary, you might enjoy this new book…”
  • It works everywhere: Whether you switch between different search modes or come back weeks later, the AI picks up right where you left off.

Is this safe? (Privacy Controls)

For many people, the idea of an AI “remembering” them sounds a bit scary. Perplexity has included full control features to handle this:

  • You are the boss: You can go into your settings and view exactly what the AI has remembered about you.
  • Delete anytime: If it remembers something you don’t want it to (like a gift you searched for), you can delete that specific memory.
  • Incognito Mode: If you want to browse without the AI tracking or remembering anything, you can use “Incognito Mode.” When this is on, the memory feature is automatically turned off.

2. The Virtual “Try-On” Feature

Shopping for clothes online is often a guessing game. You see a jacket on a model, buy it, and realize it looks completely different on you. Perplexity is trying to fix this with a new tool for their “Pro” and “Max” subscribers.

How it works:

  • Create your avatar: You upload a photo of yourself to Perplexity.
  • The AI does the dressing: When you are searching for clothes (like “winter jackets” or “sneakers”), you can click a “Try it on” button.
  • See the result: The AI will generate an image of you (or your digital avatar) wearing that exact item.

This happens instantly while you search. Instead of imagining how a piece of clothing looks, you can actually see it on your body type before you click “buy.”

Why This Matters

These updates are moving AI away from being just a sophisticated chatbot and turning it into a personalized digital assistant.

  1. It saves time: You stop repeating yourself. The AI knows your context, your projects, and your tastes.
  2. It saves money: The try-on feature helps reduce the number of clothes you have to return because they didn’t look right.

Currently, the Memory feature is rolling out to improve answers for everyone, while the Virtual Try-On is a specialized feature for paying (Pro/Max) subscribers.
